Steven is the Labor representative for Murrumba and the Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection and Minister for National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef in the Palaszczuk Labor Government.
Steven grew up at Petrie and attended Petrie State School and St Pauls at Bald Hills.
Steven and wife Kim are raising their three children Sam, Aidan and Bridie.
Together with his cabinet colleagues, Steven is also committed to tackling unemployment through job creation, listening to and acting upon the concerns of Queenslanders, and restoring integrity and accountability to government in Queensland.
So far in his term he has legislated to end mining on North Stradbroke Island, delivered new programs and $100m in increased funding to protect the Great Barrier Reef and tightened laws making polluters accountable for environmental damage. In 2017 he will introduce laws to implement a Queensland 'cash for cans' scheme.
Steven was elected as the Member for Mount Coot-tha in 2015. Before entering parliament Steven ran campaigns to improve rights at work for Australian workers, including the campaign to save weekend penalty rates.
Steven will be contesting the next state election as the Labor candidate for Murrumba. At the next state election, the seat of Murrumba will encompass the suburbs of Dakabin, Kallangur, Mango Hill, Griffin and Rothwell.
